Well before January 6, Trumpists had called for a Civil War and for a kind of generalized threat of violence against Democrats, school board members, librarians, election officials … well, against anyone who publicly opposed them or possessed a rational mind and a conscience. On January 6 they exercised that violence for the first time as a mob in their assault on Congress.
Since the search of Mar-a-Lago, those threats have escalated against judges, politicians, DOJ lawyers and FBI agents. Do the search: type in “right wing threats of violence.” 16, 500,000 hits in .037 seconds.
More calls for Civil War, more threats of murder against men, women and children. More idiot adults believing in wilder, more irrational conspiracies. The Trumpist Cult is becoming more apocalyptic, more fascistic, more dependent on menace and intimidation. They are within touching distance of an Inquisition. If Trump is reelected, we’ll have that too.
But my point here is more personal. If you become involved in a conversation with Trumpists who call for Civil War or mutter vague threats about taking up arms or are full of Trumpist gibberish about ‘payback’, ask them 1 question: “Who Will You Murder?”
Don’t argue with them. Don’t try to reason with them. Both are a waste of breath. Ask them that question. Keep asking just that question until they answer sincerely, and then you well may have the most critical measure of those individuals.
